What the heck is a T-number, and why you should care
Legitimate California movers are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission, who require proofs of insurances and licensing. Also, representatives of California movers have to take, and pass, exams which demonstrate knowledge of intrastate moving rules and regulations. Meeting all of the requirements set by the commission usually results in successful movers being issued a permit with an accompanying T-number (e.g., T-94991). This number is placarded on equipment, like trucks and trailers, and should accompany all advertising. The presence of a T-number on equipment, and in advertising, signifies compliance and informs consumers of the seriousness with which a permitted mover takes their business.
